ADVENTURE ON THE BANKS OF THE SOČA RIVER
Designed for groups or as a team building, the program is a combination of challenges for overcoming obstacles at the adventure park Soča Fun Park and a tour to discover the millenary history of Gorizia and Solkan with surroundings. You will walk in the trenches and tunnels of the World War I and hear interesting stories from the history of this border area along the Soča River.
FIRST, FUNNY ADVENTURE AT THE SOČA FUN PARK
In the morning, we meet in Solkan, in the courtyard of the Kayak Canoe Centre Solkan, where experienced and qualified instructors of the adventure park greet you. While you sip you morning coffee or juice and enjoy your croissant on the riverbank of the Soča River, the instructors present you the program. After the welcoming part, you will enter the Soča Fun Park on the right bank of the river Soča. Under the auspices of the instructors, you face a two-hour adventure among the treetops, overcoming the obstacles in the adventure park at a height of 2 to 10 meters above the ground. At last, you face the unforgettable "descent of courage" – you return to the left bank along a 300 meters long zip-line, 40 meters above the ground.
After the experience, you have a lunch in one of the nearby restaurants.
DISCOVERING THE MORE THAN 1000-YEAR-OLD HISTORY OF THE AREA
After lunch, you take a walk through the more than 1000 years old settlement Solkan (first mentioned in 1001) and visit the War Museum - Isonzo Front 1915-1917. You than continue towards Skalnica, also called Sveta Gora (Holy Mountain), stopping at the pass of Preval to admire a fantastic view of the two Solkan bridges over the emerald Soča river and the Goriška plane with the two towns along the Slovene-Italian border: Nova Gorica and Gorizia. You continue your way on foot along ditches and trenches of the World War I towards the top of Sveta Gora. The trail goes up the slope and it tightens into a firing trench and approaches the Sveta Gora road, under which it winds onward to the penultimate sharp road bend (520 m). Here you put on your helmet and headlamp and enter a 260 m long tunnel. After crawling a short distance, you rise in the tunnel with the help of a metal cable and experience the adventures of soldiers who have fought in the war on these slopes. You exit the trench on the north side of Sveta Gora, at an altitude of 545 m, where a nice view over the Banjšice plateau opens. You then pass by the former military buildings and climb up the eastern part of the Sveta Gora ridge. From that point, a 700 m long trail leads you to a safe and peaceful embrace of the Sveta Gora Basilica.
With its altitude of 682 m, Sveta Gora offers majestic views of the Julian Alps, Trnovo Forest, Karst and all the way to the sea, and on the West side of Goriška brda, Friuli plain, Carnic Alps and the Dolomites.
The trip ends in the afternoon, after the visit of Sveta Gora.
